There are a variety of roles involved in our music ministry. Many require extensive training and experience, and others simply require the love and passion of music with the ability to carry a tune. The psalmist is the procalimer of the Word, a cantor is the song leader for the assembly, singers in a choir add to the enhancement of the entire choral sound, instrumentalists give flavor to the personality of the mass, and the choir director ensures everything goes according to plan (or at least tries to!). Each Sunday Mass has its own choir with its own personality. Some choirs are more traditional in style, others are contemplative, and still others are more upbeat and youth oriented. Each choir has their own rehearsal time set by their accompanist and director.
Current Choirs: ?5:30 Saturday night- This is a cantored mass - meaning one cantor and an accompanist. We would like to expand this to a "choired" mass in the future. We would also like to add musicians to this mass - guitar, woodwinds, strings.
?8:45 - "Angelica Choir" consists of 4-part harmonies - 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month; cantor plus "drop-in" (all are welcome) choir on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month. Rehearsals: Mondays 7-8:30 pm in the church for the Angelica Choir
?10:30 - Children's Choir (1st and 3rd Sundays) - consists of children 1st grade through 8th; Fil-Am Choir (2nd and 4th/5th Sundays) Rehearsals: Wednesday 5-6:00 pm in the Parish Center for Children; 7-8 for Fil-Am
?5:30 pm - Worship Choir - consists of teens, 9th grade and older. Rehearsals Tuesdays 6:-9:00 pm; 3:30-5:30 Sundays before mass
There are some specialized choirs, such as the "Ressurection" (funeral) choir, the bi-lingual choir, and choirs for special occasions such as Easter and Christmas. Knowledge and skills required vary by role in the music ministry. Anyone interested in these specialized choirs should contact the Liturgy Director at the parish, 779-3959, or at liturgy@stca.org, or Pedro Uribe through the rectory office.
Anyone who plays a musical instrument and is interested in joining us for any mass, please contact one of our directors!
