As Ladies of Charity, Morgan Hill, we are called, first of all, to nurture a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, the source and model of all charity. As this relationship deepens, we come to understand that our Lord is present in all those we meet in the course of a day.
The Mission of the Ladies of Charity is to experience Jesus Christ in the service of those who are Poor. This implies that we are impelled by the love of Christ in all our relationships. We love affectively and effectively, while serving in a spirit of Humility, Simplicity, and Charity.
Our founder, St. Vincent de Paul, taught us that we are to treat those who are Poor with respect and devotion because they represent the person of our Lord who said: “What you do to the least of mine, you do to me.” St. Louise de Marillac worked closely with St. Vincent de Paul in the foundation of the Ladies of Charity. She taught us to: “Be very pleasant and kind to those who are Poor: they are our Masters whom we should love tenderly and respect exceedingly.”
We meet regularly to conduct business and to reflect on our service. Reflecting on our service is an important way to determine how God is revealed to us through our service. This reflection also assists us to determine if we are acting in the same manner as Jesus acted, that is with respect and compassion.
