If you're in high school and interested in being Confirmed, welcome!
Confirmation is the third Sacrament of Initiation (the first two being Baptism & First Holy Communion) into the Church that Jesus Christ left us to belong to. Confirmation is about encountering the Grace of God through the Holy Spirit and getting the chance for us as individuals to say "YES!" to our faith. To be Confirmed also means to be committing to a life as a Catholic, sharing your love for Jesus Christ with others in the way God specifically calls you to do so.
If you're a parent wanting your teen to start this program, and they're not willing, that's okay! Have them join anyway, and hope they will open themselves enough so that the Holy Spirit can enter and work within them. Starting the Confirmation process DOES NOT commit teens to being Confirmed. It is a process that will hopefully bring teens to a point where they decide to accept God's graces through the Sacrament or not.
As a parent, please make sure you are also leading by example, living a life growing in relationship with Jesus, attending Sunday (or Saturday) Mass, and praying - both privately and with your family - frequently.
SOME INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Confirmation Program at St. Catherine's is currently a one-year formation program. It is through Confirmation, young people renew the Baptismal Promises their parents and sponsors made for them when they were kids. Because it is a High School Confirmation Program, candidates must be under 18 years old throughout the duration of the program year to participate.
But not to fear! Confirmation Preparation for Young Adult Teens (18+) and Older is available! If this is needed for you or your teen to prepare to receive the sacrament, please email Fr. Sergio Ovando, Pastor at [email protected].
"So how does this program work?"
Preparation to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation is done over a One-Year Program. During the year of the program, young people are offered the space and opportunity to be able to gain a deeper understanding of what our faith is about and help them to integrate in the different community and parish activities. Now that our program has returned to a fully in-person participation, the health and safety of everyone involved in our program is prioritized and respected by being in compliance with all of our diocesan and county COVID-19 regulations and ordinances. So, when we meet, everyone is invited and suggested to wear masks and remember to keep a safe distance and sanitize or wash their hands as often as it is necessary.
