Sacramental Preparation for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist is usually in the 2nd grade. All 2nd-grade students registered in St. Catherine School or St. Catherine Faith Formation are considered candidates for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist. Preparation includes class attendance, weekly mass participation and family engagement in community parish events.
Older children through the age of 14 are prepared through the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) program for Children. Adults participate in the RCIA program.
Prior to registering for Sacramental Preparation, children must be registered in Faith formation or attending a Catholic school and have attended faith formation classes for at least one year.
Faith formation classes are on Wednesdays (Grades 1-5), Sundays (Grades 1-8) and Saturdays (Spanish - Grades1-8).
Registration is now OPEN for 2016-17.
RCIA for Children
The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) for Children is a process for children over the age of 7 who have not yet been baptized. It is modeled on the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). In keeping with the current Church practice these children celebrate Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist.
Together with their peers, children in RCIA meet each week at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday or Saturday (Spanish) mornings. The initiation process works towards a deeper understanding of our faith and lays the foundation for continual faith formation. Children study the Sunday readings and prepare to celebrate the sacraments. Additionally, there are monthly sessions held together with parents and sponsors. The RCIA for Children is generally a full calendar year process and is available in English and Spanish.
ALL NEW Registrations must be done in person. Children new to the program also need to have a copy of baptism certificate on file. Early registration deadline: August 31st. Registration for the 2016-17 year is now open.
