The Catholic Church invites anyone not already baptized to consider baptism.
When we are baptized, we begin a new life with God through the outpouring of God’s Spirit
in the water of the baptismal font.
Baptism is the first sacrament of Christian initiation and leads to the others.
For adults, Baptism is celebrated along with the sacraments of Confirmation and first Holy Communion.
How Long Does it take?
How long does it take an adult to be ready for Baptism? The answer to this question is "it depends on the individual." Every journey in faith is individual. When an adult asks for Baptism, his or her life experiences need to be taken into account. An example may help. An adult who has been faithfully participating at Mass each Sunday for many years is different from one who recently starting exploring the Catholic Church. Each person discerns her or his readiness with the help of the St Catherine parish initiation team. Usually adult Baptism, along with Confirmation and first Holy Communion, is done at Easter Vigil. As the Lord Jesus said, "Come and see."
